Samsung announced the next-generation Galaxy S series smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S5, yesterday at the Unpacked 5 event in Barcelona. The press release issued by the company revealed that the device is powered by 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm's Snapdragon 801 (MSM8974AC) processor. However, Samsung failed to mention the existence of an octa-core version of the Galaxy S5 at its announcement.
According to a blog post by Samsung Tomorrow, containing a new infographic, comparing all the Galaxy S series devices (image below), the Galaxy S5 will soon be available in Exynos Octa-Core variant clocked at 2.1GHz. The same is said to be the teased Exynos Infinity processor, which is expected to be unveiled later this week at MWC 2014.
It is unclear whether the Exynos variant of Galaxy S5 will be limited to select markets or if Samsung will launch the Exynos variant across the globe excluding US, which will receive the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 variant. The infographic is based on variants offered in South Korea, so it is likely that the Exynos octa-core variant will initially be offered in the country.
Talking about the availability of Galaxy S5 now, as reported in our last S5 post, the smartphone will go on sale on April 11 in 150 countries including India. Samsung will be also launching the Gear Fit wearable on the same day as Galaxy S5 i.e. April 11th, 2014.
Lastly, According to Android Central, a 16GB model of the Samsung Galaxy S5 will only have about half of that as available storage (7.86GB to be more accurate).
