LG - World's Slimmest Full HD 1080p Display Panel with 2.2mm thickness Unveiled

LG has officially unveiled the world's slimmest Full HD LCD display panel for smartphones today in Korea. The panel is of 5.2-inch in size (diagonally) and is matching the rumoured LG G2 display. The panel is just 2.2mm thin. The panel is not only the slimmest FHD display panel but is also the world's narrowest FHD display panel with 2.3mm bezel. According to LG, this display panel will offer better grip-ability and a superior viewing experience.

The upcoming LG G2 is also rumoured to sport 5.2-inch FHD display and after the announcement of this display panel, it is expected to see the same display on this LG's upcoming smartphone, whose teasers are live on the web. As per LG press release, the panel uses Advanced One-Glass Solution (OGS) technology to reduce the thickness, and uses flexible circuits between the panel and touch film, with 30% fewer lines on the panel.
"Today's introduction of the world's slimmest Full HD LCD panel represents an exciting advancement for the high-end smartphone segment, and is possible due to our world-class expertise in IPS and touch technologies," said Dr. Byeong-Koo Kim, Vice President and Head of LG Display's IT and Mobile Development Group.

"Only 2.2mm thin with a 2.3mm bezel, LG Display's new panel is both slimmest and narrowest among existing Full HD LCD panels designed for mobile devices. This world's slimmest Full HD LCD panel will provide larger visible display space on smartphones, critical as mobile devices are used for multimedia viewing more than ever before," LG noted in a press release.
Each pixel on the panel contains RGB sub-pixels with maximum brightness of 535nits which is far better than the current Full HD LCD panels.
