After so many leaks and rumours, Samsung has announced the much awaited Samsung Galaxy S5 at the Unpacked 5 event in Barcelona. The Galaxy S5 is the flagship smartphone for this year from Samsung. The smartphone comes in an array of vivid colors, including charcoal Black, shimmery White, electric Blue and copper Gold, to complement the style of the individual consumer.

The Galaxy S5 is the fifth-generation S series smartphone from Samsung, and comes with mind blowing specs. The device will be available globally through Samsung's retail channels, e-commerce and carriers starting from April 2014. No word on pricing details yet. 


Coming to specifications arena, the Galaxy S5 comes with a 5.1-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB RAM and Android 4.4.2 KitKat with Samsung's TouchWiz user-interface on top.

The Galaxy S5 also comes with an 16MP rear camera with LED flash, 2.1MP front facing camera, 16/32GB internal storage with up to 64GB supported microSD card slot and 2,800 mAh battery with Talk time of 21 hrs and Standby time of 390 hrs. The device measures 142.0 x 72.5 x 8.1mm and weighs 145 grams.

The Galaxy S5 offers the most advanced LTE experience and Wi-Fi performance available today. It supports the fifth generation Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and 2X2 MIMO, and supporting the large number of LTE frequency with LTE Category 4 standard (150 Mbps). Other connectivity series include Bluetooth v4.0 BLE /ANT+, USB 3.0 (covered), NFC and IR Remote.

In addition to all those specs, the Galaxy S5 is IP67 dust and water resistant, so we won't see any "Active" variant of the phone. The smartphone also comes with Ultra Power Saving Mode, Quick Connect, Private mode and Kids mode. The Ultra Power Saving Mode turns the display to black and white, and shuts down all unnecessary features to minimize the battery consumption. 

Under the camera section, the Galaxy S5 offers the world's fastest autofocus speed up to 0.3 seconds and the advanced High Dynamic Range (HDR), reproduce natural light and colour with striking intensity at any circumstances. There is also a new feature called Selective Focus, which allows users to focus on a specific area of an object while simultaneously blurring out the background. The camera can record 4K Ultra-HD videos at 3840 x 2160 resolution.

The Galaxy S5 also features a Download Booster, which is an innovative Wi-Fi technology for boosting data speed by bonding Wi-Fi and LTE simultaneously. The smartphone also comes with S Health 3.0 which provides a comprehensive personal fitness tracker to help users monitor and manage their behaviour, along with additional tools including a pedometer, diet and exercise records, and a new, built-in heart rate monitor.

Finally, the Galaxy S5 come with a fingerprint scanner, which is embedded in the home key. Swiping the finger eight times on the button will teach the S5 to record your print, so when you need to unlock the device in future your print is recognised. Up to three fingerprints can be registered at one time. The scanner can also be used with PayPal to authorise payments for items within the browser.

Lastly, Samsung has ditched the menu button from Galaxy S5, and has replaced it by multitasking button, and has also excluded dozens of S-apps which are currently found on previous Galaxy S series smartphones.

Samsung has announced that it will be launching the Galaxy S5, Gear 2 and Gear Fit in less than three weeks on more than 150 carriers. And all these devices will be launched on April 11 worldwide.
